As gas prices begin to skyrocket to 5.00 a gallon, a new proposal is made in Utah. In Utah, there is oil useable to supply America’s high demand for gasoline. It proposes we make oil from a tar like substance that grow on the surface. However, the process demands a high percentage of water, and valuable resources. It also is somewhat risky, and may pollute the area surrounding it, including, the Colorado River. Environmentalists say that the risks simply outweigh the benefits, and should not be taken into use. The companies that plan take the oil say the process is harmless, and will leave Utah the way it was. A hearing is set to take place May 25th discussing the topic.
